Two Key Styles Make This Kitchen Transitional

I am delighted to see my cabinet design come to fruition in this transitional style kitchen remodel. I love mixing old with new, and that is how the transitional aesthetic is defined. It's a mix of traditional and modern that does not lock you into one or the other style.

To begin with:
- The wall between the kitchen and dining room was taken out to create a contemporary open floorplan.
- Seating space was not compromised by adding an island and keeping the eat-in kitchen.
- Sliding glass doors on each end of the expansive kitchen access the outdoor living space.
- The window above the original sink was left in place to keep the space light and bright.
- These good bones of the kitchen were the base on which to start adding the traditional and modern elements.
The traditional elements:
- Cabinets are timeless with the wide rail, grooved edge profile, five piece drawer fronts and decorative crown molding reaching to the ceiling.

- The decorative hood with arched top is a strong traditional statement amongst the vast amount of cabinetry.

- Mosaic, marble, basketweave backsplash has remained classic for decades and adds a dynamic backdrop for this space.

The modern elements:
- Turning this space from traditional to transitional are the addition of modern round chandeliers above the island.

- This prevailing modern element works so well with the soft line of the arched hood and round stools.

- Idyllic transitional colors of gray, white and taupe are soft and create a cohesive space .

Other little details make a big impact:
- The faucet makes a transitional statement as well by blending modern and traditional lines.

- Modern, straight, black cabinet pulls are functional choice atop the traditional cabinets.

- Premium appliances are a must in any highly functional and stylish kitchen.

I think this kitchen is a perfect mix of traditional and modern making it an excellent example of the transitional style.
