I can't believe I'm showing you this disgusting shower picture, but it will get better. With black mold growing in the shower and an unusable corner tub, it was way past due for a remodel.
Money was saved by ripping out the tub deck and removed the shower walls and floors ourselves. A pipe was found in the floor behind the tub deck that made us scratch our heads, but it became a very happy thing.
So instead of moving the pipe (which would have costed more), a wall with a ledge was built which will become a shelf for a wine glass while soaking in the new stand alone tub.
The tub was too big to fit through the doorway (woops) and I appreciated the plumber when he said "where there is a will there is a way"! Not a problem. A notch was cut in the door frame to allow the tub to fit through the door. Lesson learned: make sure to measure ALL doorways.
A steam unit led to framing a bench in the shower. Which by the way, is so relaxing. https://www.mrsteam.com/explore-the-possibilities/
The countertops, plumbing, tile and shower door were left to the experts and the results are spectacular.
Other ways money was saved:
Using the existing lighting fixtures, but making them look new by changing the direction from up light to down light.
Keeping the travertine floor tile. It was in great condition and still liked the timeless natural stone look.
Kept the original vanities but updated them by adding new hardware.
Doing a bathroom remodel is going to be expensive, but there are some ways to save some money and still have spectacular results.
